Mental health first aid training (MHFA) is a programme that helps to educate people how to identify and assist someone who is suffering from a mental health or drug use condition.

This programme trains people in grassroots football to recognise early warning signs of mental health conditions, enabling them to provide initial assistance and support to someone in difficulty, and to help them to connect people to external professional support.
Mental Health First Aid Training Delegate Feedback

I have done other mental health courses and really liked the way this one was presented. Chris and Danny both made mental health easily understandable. I feel this course should be made mandatory alongside safeguarding as mental health affects so many of us as sadly I know only too well.

Delegate Feedback

There is not enough support or knowledge for coaches, parents and players regarding mental health and I really do feel strongly that The FA should make your course a key part of requirements.

Delegate Feedback

Very informative and specific to our roles in football. Thank you for taking the time to deliver the course and well done to you all for continuing to break the stigma surrounding mental health.

Really enjoyed the session. Lots of very useful information that I hope I don't have to use but I definitely feel better prepared should I have to. I haven't had a chance to look in any depth just yet but the resource material you have made available looks fantastic. This is such an important area that is often overlooked, I'd argue there is a case to make this training mandatory along with emergency first aid and safeguarding.

Delegate Feedback

An exceptional course. Loved taking part, it helped that the group was really good as well. A very good experience.

Delegate Feedback

I found it very informative and it both reinforced some things I already knew and revealed many that I didn't. It has also given me some useful tools that I will be able to use in football coaching but also in my personal and work life. I look forward to receiving the pack next week. Great job, thanks again.

Why should you have a Mental Health First Aider in your Club?

Things are hard currently, and many, many people within your club, from players to coaches, volunteers to committee members and those connected to your club watching on the touchline will feel the pinch, leading to more pressure on their mental health.
Clubs undertaking mental health first aid training will allow people attached to the Club to know that there is at least one individual whom they can approach to discuss any aspect of mental health and just like at pro Clubs, this will allow more people to spot potential signs of mental health conditions.
Furthermore, mental health first aid training can help to promote the importance of mental health and reduce the stigma around seeking help for mental health conditions.
This can encourage people to speak up and seek help if they or anyone they know, are experiencing mental health challenges. This can lead to better overall mental health and well-being within the club, helping to create a more supportive and inclusive culture.
If there is a safeguarding concern within your Club, everyone knows who to contact. Can you say the same if there is a mental health concern? With this training, you can!
