R;pple Suicide Prevention is an innovative digital tool designed to intercept harmful online content related to self-harm and suicide. Founded by Alice Hendy MBE, R;pple aims to provide immediate support and resources to individuals in crisis, thereby preventing potential tragedies.

It’s free for parents/guardians/carers to install on their desktop/laptop and it’s something we at The FMHA are keen for as many people to know about as possible. Click here for more information.

Guest post by R;pple Founder and CEO, Alice Hendy MBE.

I lost my only sibling, my brother Josh, on 25th November 2020 to suicide. After examining Josh’s phone, I found that he had been researching techniques to take his own life via harmful internet searches. To ensure more help and support is given to individuals searching for harmful content online, I set up R;pple; a digital tool (available to download as a browser extension or through Wi-Fi integration) that can provide immediate support to people searching for harmful content relating to the topic of suicide and self-harm.

My Story is available to view in the video below:

If a user searches for harmful content online, they will be:

  • Provided with guided breathing exercises.
  • Presented with reassuring messages.
  • Given immediate access to help lines and mental health services to use now and in the longer term.

The Impact

  • Downloads – To date, R;pple has been downloaded over 1.9 million times.
  • Interceptions – R;pple has intercepted over 45,164 genuine harmful online searches.
  • Lives Saved – Although we do not collect any personally identifiable information, 29 individuals have approached us to inform us that R;pple has saved their life.
  • R;pple has won 30 awards in the mental health and innovation space.
